Eymoutiers Church across the River Vienne

La Maison du Bourg is situated at the very heart of the Limousin, where the three Departments of Haute Vienne, Creuse and Correze meet, an area known both as “the Lake District of France” and “The lungs of France”.  With large forests to explore and numerous rivers and lakes, you will never be short of something to do.  The area is known for the delicious Limousin Beef and the beautiful Limoges Porcelain.

Regular markets are held in many of the surrounding towns, there are many picturesque villages to explore.
The many rivers and lakes are ideal for fishing and a daily or weekly licence can be obtained from the local Tourist Information offices.

Eymoutiers is lovely old town with a history of tanning, set on the river Vienne with  regular weekly markets on Thursday and Saturday mornings (in summer). The town offers restaurants and small bars and cafes, shops, a cinema, a supermarket and a heated outdoor swimming pool; open in summer.
There are regular trains from Eymouters to Limoges and in July and August a tourist steam train runs from Eymoutiers station.

In the opposite direction the small town of Peyrat le Chateau is set around a beautiful lake with a few shops and bars.  Or you could visit the Resistance Museum in the Tower building.

The beautiful Lac de Vassivière is only a 20 minute drive away with several lovely sandy beaches (supervised in Summer) and many unsupervised places to swim and picnic around the 26km perimeter. There are a range of water sports available at the lake, including: water skiing; canoeing and sailing and a variety of craft are available to hire, either at one of the beaches or one of the marinas.

There are also many signposted walks/rides around the lake and a free boat taxi is available in the summer months. On the Isle de Vassiviere you can follow the sculpture trails and climb to the top of the tower for a stunning view of the lake.  If you are feeling energetic there is Arbres en Arbres, an adventure park in the woodland at the edge of the lake or you could play tennis, petanque/boules or basketball.

With regular trains from Eymoutiers, Limoges is an interesting city on the river Vienne.
